Beautiful Fort Scott

What a week it's been!
Jerry Witt brought about 40 people downtown yesterday to look at the buildings available and talk about the possibilities for new businesses. We're very hopefull that some more creative people decide to join us in our adventure. Then, yesterday afternoon the Master Gardners came and planted flowers in our hanging baskets-beautiful! The twins needed to take a break from baseball and so now they're chasing butterflies!

Our Treasure

Our National Historic Site, Fort Scott is truly the jewel in our crown here in Fort Scott. Jim and I have travelled around the country, and very few cities have a historic site as well maintained and historically important as ours. We're always proud to recommend that folks visit the "Old Fort". Well, now is our chance to vote for Fort Scott NHS to be one of the "8 Wonders of Kansas History" and let others know about our jewel. Just go to: www.kansassampler.org/8wonders/ and place your vote. The list started out with 170 locations throughout the state, but it's been narrowed down to 24. We think our Fort belongs on the top 8, don't you?

A Few of My Favorites

Blogs, like bloggers vary in style. Here are a few of my favorites:
First of all; Martha Scott's at www.linesfromlinderhof.com Martha lets you in on how she manages to live a genteel, elegant life on the praire. Gardening, cooking, Oliver and more!
While Kenny Felt doesn't post as often as Martha does, his photos are always wonderful, and his positive energy always comes through at www.kennyfelt.blogspot.com.
If you don't know about the Wednesday food section of the New York Times, go there NOW! (www.nyt.com) I really love holding the paper in my hands and reading every recipe and article, but as that is a little difficult here, I enjoy the recipes, restaurant reviews, and wine tips on line. The best part though is Mark Bittman. He often has a 3 or 4 minute video showing him cooking something. He and some of the other food writers blog regularly at: www.dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com.
Enjoy!

Let's Play Ball!

I LOVE spring! I remember growing up in Michigan, wondering if the cold, cold winter would ever end; and then suddenly the tulips would pop up from the ground and the trees would start leafing out. Just like Kansas, sometimes we were tricked into thinking it was spring, just to be surprised by a snow storm or ice storm. Well, I think it really is spring now. Baseball season has started, my tulips are bright and beautiful and the twins are ready to play!
This past weekend the ice cream was very popular with the reenactors visiting the Fort and the Boy Scouts that camped out at Gunn Park. I've switched my daily caffeine habit from hot to cold, and I pulled the sandles out of the closet. We made it!
Lot's of exciting stuff going on in Fort Scott this weekend; including the City-Wide Garage Sale and the Pioneer Harvest Fiesta Swap Meet. Our Farmer's Market will be returning soon to Skubitz Plaza, and don't forget that this Saturday is National Kids in the Kitchen Day-so round up your kids and make something fun in the kitchen!

Catching up

Yes, I know we opened last November, but with the new year (and lots more merchandise!) we decided it was time we made this official. Thanks to the nice folks at the Chamber of Commerce, especially Jerry Witt, we had a good, old-fashioned ribbon cutting with all the required hoopla! We feel privilaged to be part of this supportive business community. Thanks for your support!
